Saraswats are one of India's oldest ethnic denominations with a history dating back to Vedic times. They trace their origins to the mythical river Saraswati (now extinct) in North West India. They are believed to be the descendents/ disciples of the sage Saraswat Muni who lived on the banks of this river.

Following the mysterious drying up of their lifeline, the River Saraswati, they migrated to various parts of India over the millennia. They are now scattered in different corners of the country and share no formal connection other than their common origin.
